Day 1: Geneva to Interlaken

Day 1 · Interlaken

Picked up the bike on the French side of Geneva, packed it all up, and headed off into the mountains! I scooted along Lake Geneva for a little bit, grabbing some lunch in what I think was Rolle, but hard to say exactly since my phone had no reception.

From there I cut over to the highway to expedite my journey to the mountains.

My first experience of Swiss villages? So cute!! Just like they look in photos. The roads were windy and beautiful, the weather a balmy 75° most of the day. And – like anywhere it snows – plenty of construction blockades.

Tonight and tomorrow night I’ll be in Interlaken, and I’m not sure how I’ll spend my day tomorrow. There’s a lot to do around here, including a via Ferrata that looks amazing but that I did not bring appropriate footwear to safely participate in so I’d need to rent hiking boots. 🤢

annndd now – the riding videos.

Lil snippets of Lake Geneva

Some hillside vineyards

Swiss valleys

The hilarious moment where jetlagged me chooses the wrong side of the road on a construction stop, and the whole line of cars follows me

I also filmed the descent into Interlaken (16 mins), but it’s too big to share on the site. Here’s the link to the full GoPro album. I’m probably just going to utilize my endless GoPro storage and link out to the trip album for the rest of the riding footage – the process for getting the videos onto the site has been really slow and annoying, and I’m going to hit my storage limits in like 3 days.

And as a last little bit of a side quest, I decided to wait in the Harder Kulm line and see what all the fuss was about.

It turns out the funicular goes up the side of the mountain and you get a stunning view of both lakes. And since the line was so long, I got to enjoy it at golden hour.

I don’t have any riding planned for today, and there’s an overwhelming amount of options for activities around here so…I have no idea what I’m going to get up to!

Riding from Geneva to Interlaken, covering 148 miles.

If you have the opportunity and time to try via ferrata, I highly recommend it!!
